Job Description


Defense in Depth (DID) is a comprehensive facility with an infrastructure that includes a 16-lane indoor shooting range; a 4,000-square foot retail store; (2) classroom facilities; one (1) live fire simulator and one (1) laser designated simulator; gunsmith services; a lounge for our members and a host of other amenities within the 20,000-square foot facility. DID is currently in the process of filling various positions within the DID Team. Specific for this full-time position, we are seeking a Retail Sales Associates.

This individual shall have previous experience and general working knowledge of firearms that include handguns, rifles, carbines and shotguns with emphasis on safe handling. Every Associate shall receive product specific training when necessary or when specific product questions become known. The Retail Sales Associate shall have an engaging but not overbearing personality and must always interact with the customers in a courteous and professional manner.

DID’s Retail Sales Associates are the strength and backbone of our company in that these individuals are the first to initiate contact with the customer and this interaction defines the mission statement for DID’s customer service, develops strong customer loyalty and enhances the overall DID experience for the customer. This position, as well as all of our positions,  provide the opportunity for training in various cross-functional environments within our facility when time management allows.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Primary focus shall be on customer service.
  • Provide the customer with accurate information on products, answer all questions regarding the product and if necessary, seek help in answering these questions.
  • Understand and be proficient in firearms sales and forms required by Federal and State and Local Laws and successfully assist the customer with Form 4473.
  • Verify all information is properly entered on all federal forms, particularly the 4473 forms for firearms purchase.
  • Confirm all customer information prior to conducting background checks for the purchase of firearms.
  • Confirm the firearm and accessories are properly packaged prior to customer acceptance.
  • Check shelves for product levels and inform the retail manager of any deficiencies in inventory that require attention.
  • Keeping the retail floor and shelves clean and organized, including refolding clothing and apparel.
  • Stocking and facing new products.
  • Researching new inventory products to ensure up to date information and knowledge is available to the customer.
  • Notify the Assistant Retail Manager prior to any complicated transactions that may influence the register’s end of day balance.
  • Responsible for special orders and the subsequent follow up/tracking of the order with procurement regarding the progress for any orders of this type.
  • Ensure proper 4473 procedures are followed for all related sales and subsequent storage.
  • Know how to recognize "Straw Purchases” and notify the Retail Sales Manager if this potential is present for any purchase.
  • Maintain a positive attitude that promotes teamwork within the company and a favorable image of the company.
  • Ensure all Defense in Depth policies and procedures are upheld always.
  • Assist in the establishment, implementation and ongoing enforcement of related SOPs.
  • Assist, train and mentor junior associates.
