Gallup: 57% Americans Oppose “Assault Weapons” Ban

According to Gallup polling, the American public now opposes an “assault weapons” ban by a solid 17%, despite a decade-long push by gun control advocates and mainstream media for the policy.

As you can see by this chart, public opinion has opposed the ban since 2006, but the media coverage and financing of gun control efforts surrounding the 2017 Las Vegas shooting nearly tipped the balance.  In 2018, however, the scales have tipped back, despite the massive organized and funded gun control campaigns following the Parkland school shooting.  According to the Washington Post, Michael Bloomberg’s gun control group “Everytown for Gun Safety” has noticed the data as well, shifting most of their funding in the run-up to the 2018 elections toward coverage of other major progressive issues.
