For the second time in a week we highlight a self defense shooting out of the Chicago area. And for the second time in as many weeks, a self defense shooting occurs after two strangers used the internet to arrange a sale.
This time, a 30-year-old man used the Letgo app to arrange a midday meetup for the transaction. But instead of showing up with cash for his purchase, the supposed buyer, Lawrence Dye, showed up with a gun and an accomplice.
The seller, who was a concealed carry permit holder, drew his own weapon and fired three rounds at Dye, striking him once in the leg. The accomplice ran.
It is statistically unlikely that you will be threatened when selling personal items on apps like Letgo. But hopefully, this story and the nearly identical story a week ago featuring an LSU running back will help us remember to remain vigilant.
This story was originally reported in the Chicago Sun-Times.
